Keon Nurse

Edmonton, Alberta · Graduating April 2027

I build embedded hardware and keep live-event networks running.

Psychology major and Computing Science minor at the University of Alberta. I spent the summer on the timing and network crew at Foote Field, and my evenings on an ESP32 scoreboard and a home server I cabled myself. Looking for work in controls, building automation and IIoT software.

Projects

2026 · ESP32, C++, Bluetooth Low Energy, Fusion 360, CadQuery

ESP32 LED scoreboard

A battery-powered table tennis scoreboard. An ESP32 drives P10 LED matrix panels and takes score input over Bluetooth Low Energy from custom button controls.

  • Designed the power system around a LiPo cell with TP4056 charging, and wired the ESP32 to the panel's HUB12 interface.
  • Modeled the enclosure, panel rails and stand as parametric Fusion 360 Python scripts, and the button case in CadQuery, so a dimension change regenerates the part.
  • 3D printed all parts.

Ongoing · Linux, Proxmox, Raspberry Pi, Tailscale

Self-hosted home server

A home server and network built from the ground up on mini PCs and Raspberry Pis, in a small rack with a managed switch and patch panel.

  • Administer Linux and Proxmox hosts on static IPs.
  • Remote access over Tailscale, plus subnetting, gateway and DNS configuration.
  • Hand-run Cat5 cabling between the rack and the rest of the house.

Education

BA Psychology, Minor in Computing Science

University of Alberta · Expected April 2027

Relevant coursework: CMPUT 174 and 175 (programming), CMPUT 201 (C programming), CMPUT 229 (computer architecture, RISC-V), CMPUT 301 (software engineering, in progress).

Psychology and computing together is the point. I can work out why a results service went quiet, and I can also explain it to the person whose screen just went blank.
